Thanks locum2 for yr comment. I thinks that all great artists intend to give a universal message that can be applied to the humans in all their history.Shakespeare,Puccini,Dante, Wagner,Verdi,Sophocles,Euripides, etc. composed their messages for future generations.

You don't know what you are talking about Sdaub09 google the piece. When they sang this in practise for the first time the workers and stage hands new what Verdi meant, because the Austrian would not allow them to clap they pounded hammers and other tools to Verdi's delight.

You are absolutely correct marxomenos. I am very impressed. You are also well traveled bravo. Nabucco is one of my favorites for exactly what you just stated.Schipshap,Verdi was an Italian patriot who believed the all Italy should be unified. Many of his works as double and hidden meanings. That is why Verdi in Italy is not just a great composer put one of Italy's true patriots.

Bellissima, non ho parole. Me cadono le lacrime ogni volta che l'ascolto.
Sdaub09 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
actually, that's not true. Italians took the piece and used it for that purpose, but that's not why he wrote it.
