The first part of this is fire damage - still related to Ike. The second part is on the seawall from the buildings (restaurant and gift shops) that were out on the water on a pier. Codark2 was right, most of the island is protected by a seawall, but not all of it. Many homes were flooded from the backside of the island. I lived through it. Not fun.

hahah...first of all galveston is behind a 15 foot high seawall, so its not "right on shore". Cities like new york are near the shore, and i spose they'll be dumbasses when a hurricane goes up that a way too. just like californians are dumbasses for living in an earthquake zone, midwesterners are dumbasses for living in a tornado zone, etc. thing is, blaming people for natural disasters is stupid, and eventually there will be one in your area too.

That looks like maybe the fire that broke out on the island. Some of those houses look more burnt than wind damaged. Could be both. Was it here? I see Brennan's everyday and its so sad. I never got a chance to eat there.
