RAW STORYFriday, August 29, 2008 http://www.prisonplanet.com/pa... at bottom: Palin currently being investigated for abuse of office"Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, a self-styled "hockey mom" who has only been governor for a little over a year, is GOP Presidential candidate John McCain's choice for Vice President," CNBC reported early Friday.According to a Republican strategist, Palin is the nominee, though McCain's campaign has not confirmed this.Fox News Channel and CNN also confirmed on live TV.Earlier in the day, Gov. Tim Pawlenty and former Gov. Mitt Romney each privately admitted they'd been ruled out.Palin, 44, is younger than Sen. Barack Obama and has bucked her own party on some issues, such as pork-barrel spending. According to Marketwatch, she's "taken a keen issue in energy and environmental issues.""A former Miss Alaska runner-up, Palin holds a degree in journalism and has five children, including one with Down Syndrome."Palin's selection may denote a McCain strategy to siphon off disaffected female voters from Sen. Barack Obama, who some Hillary Clinton supporters see as slighting her base by not putting her name in the running for his VP slot.Among Palin's major backers has been New York Times columnist and Fox News contributor Bill Kristol. Writing of Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal and Palin, Kristol wrote Aug. 4: "They're very popular with conservatives, especially social conservatives. And they're real reformers. They've begun to do in Baton Rouge and Juneau what many voters would like to see done in Washington. Principled conservatism and vigorous reform could be a winning combination.""McCain himself... is intrigued by the bolder possibilities of youth or bipartisanship," Kristol added. "And he could be especially intrigued by Sarah Palin and Meg Whitman. I run into plenty of moderate and conservative women who don't consider themselves feminists but would be pleased to see a qualified woman on the ticket."Palin currently being investigated for abuse of officeThe Associated Press reports, "More recently, she has come under the scrutiny of an investigation by the Republican-controlled legislature into the possibility that she ordered the dismissal of Alaska's public safety commissioner because he would not fire her former brother-in-law as a state trooper."The commissioner, Walt Monegan, was fired on July 11, because Palin "wanted to take the department in a new direction," according to Bloomberg. "Monegan than alleged that he had been pressured to fire state trooper Mike Wooten, who was married to Palin's sister and was involved in a contentious divorce, according to the Anchorage Daily News."The Bloomberg story continues, "Palin has denied any wrongdoing. The state Legislature voted on July 28 to hire an independent investigator to probe whether Palin, her family or members of her administration had pressured Monegan to fire Wooten, according to the Daily News.""Palin hasn't been implicated in the four-year-old federal corruption investigation, which has resulted in convictions of or guilty pleas from three state legislators, Murkowski's former chief of staff and two executives of an oil-services company, as well as the indictment of Senator Ted Stevens," Bloomberg's report concludes.Last month a Democratic official told the Wall Street Journal that Palin was facing possible impeachment."This is a governor who was almost impervious to error," Hollis French, a Democratic state senator told the Journal. "Now she could face impeachment, in a worst-case scenario."

1 discrepancy in my message and thats all you can pick at? We don't pay for the EU, we pay for the UN- My bad.You can't argue that we have employed Laissez-faire capitalism? You know why you can't? Because we haven't!You can't argue about the Democrat run committees which 'regulate' big business such as Fannae Mae and Freddie Mac. Speaking of which, big Democrat Barnie Frank PREVENTED regulation of Freddie Mac and Fannae Mae.

Apparently they didn't teach you in homeschooling that the EU gov't is called the European Parliament. You are the living example of failed American education policies in which teachers are paid crap and thus primary & secondary schools are a joke while homeschooled kids are taught that the Bible is literal and evolution is a fairy tale made up by liberal academics who "hate religion"?

We have laissez-faire capitalism?haha (700 billion dollar bailout is NOT laissez-faire!)No we don't, not even close. We have much more regulation and government intervention than you could ever imagine. You need to read Ron Paul's writings. Do you not realize that there are DEMOCRAT-run regulation committees in Congress?"The Euros have more civilization than we have..."You are a trip! We PAY for Europe's government assembly (the UN). We buy them their civilization!

After a decade of unbridled, unregulated 19th century style laissez-faire capitalism and the consequent crash it resulted in, I'm ready for some socialism. We've been spending billions on a war that benefits nobody (other than Dick Cheney's Halliburton). I'm ready to see tax money being spent on universal healthcare, primary, secondary and tertiary education and infrastructure projects.
FranklyMisterShankly (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
The difference lies in *where* that money is spent. My favorite political quote of all time is from Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes: "I like paying taxes - with them I buy civilization." Why is it that the Euros have bought more civilization than we Americans have? They have universal health care, free access to college edu, consumer protection legislation and superb public transportation, whereas all we have is a shitty war that benefits no one but Halliburton and Kellogg Brow & Root?

lazy ass people who don't work or go to school get free shit handed to thempeople who work hard and go to school get their shit taken from themthe marvel of socialism....heil president hussein!

Political mainstream? The policies of George W. Bush and Obama are almost identical:-Interventionist foreign policy-Spend, spend, spend-Supposed tax cut-BIG government (plenty of unnecessary legislature)Change? What change? Its just another change in face. The powers that be are not only laughing at Hannity, they are laughing at YOU FranklyMisterShankly.

Today it's settled. Obama / Biden have won the White House & the Dems have gained seats in the legislature. Most importantly, the right wing nuts have been put in their place. Sarah Palin can now go back to field dressing moose and the Republicans can now contemplate how they've drifted so far away from the political mainstream. To flyboymd82 and all the Sean Hannity / Rush Limbaugh acolytes out there: Have fun in the wilderness of political irrelevance for the next few years!
