They are merely a hop and a jump away. E minor is G major's relative minor. D major is the dominant tone of G major. Most minor key compositions (baroque, classical, and romantic eras of western music) modulate to the relative major in development. Being the dominant of the relative major, you will hear D major at least once, if there is a closed cadence. (I,IV,V)

the best thing about gould as that he creates his own interpretations of bach's music and translates them into a story. he was very passionate about the music and the best part is that he had so many songs remembered that it was ridiculous. he would just look at a music sheet one time and would just play it perfectly at an instant

He has a very unique touch on the piano. He acts as though it's a harpsichord. Very beautiful!!!

lol. i agree. I was never a fan of Richter's intepretations. especially his mattaeus passion: its faaar too slow. His organ playing is ok though...

I can't remember which conductor said 'That nut's a genius!' Toss in Bach and what a wonderful combo. I agree re: Richter's Bach. It doesn't hold up to Gould's, but Richter's "Pictures at an Exhibition" (recorded at Sophia with wax discs and tin cans plus an audience beset with consumption?) is most powerful!!

After listening to this, I came to a conclusion. Richter's performances of Bach suck.

We should all be eternally grateful to Columbia signing Gould so future generations get to enjoy the legacy he left us. These videos are a wonderful bonus.

yah I know!! Funny you should say that because I just bought Bach's 4th-6th Partita's on CD and I remember thinking that the Alchemist's version of the 6th Partita was better.
