Completely disagree. I would never have listened to Holdsworth 10 years ago, I would never have listened to Cynic 10 years ago, and I would never have listened to Spastic Ink 10 years ago.I would also not listen to Busta Rhymes now, and I would most definitely not listen to Darude now.

"if you dont like something at the first glance you aint gonna like it in like forever"bullshit. maybe it's true on your part but that doesn't mean it has to be so for everyone else too. I could give you an endless list of different bands & genres that I used to hate, and absolutely love now.

In my opinion, he is the greatest electric jazz-guitarist improviser, just listen to his solo here for God`s sake, the guy sounds like a jazz saxophonist playing mind blowing lines on the guitar. Also his music is very original, he is an innovator, although alot of people do not understand it. He is unique!

Holdsworth is not a composer of solos but an improviser. So the comparison is a misleading one. Very few (none) of the 'shredders' are improvisers in the same way as Allan is. So they appropriate some of his technique and play rock. Allan is a jazz musician, I guess. If you don't like jazz improvisation, fair enough, you won't like Allan. I find him hard to listen to sometimes, and I am a jazz guitarist. But he is amazing. Why be negative? Go and listen to something you DO like?

And I would have to completely disagree with you. Most of the music I listen to now I would have disliked years ago. Not because I forced myself to get to like it (which you really shouldn't try to do) but because I came to appreciate different genres. First impressions really aren't everything, and people do change their minds. Anyway, just because You don't like Holdsworth doesn't mean you can come to the "conclusion" that he's crap

actually i disagree my friend..if you dont like something at the first glance you aint gonna like it in like forever...for example i forced my self to get to like holdworths music because i thought so many famous musician talk about him he cant be crap but myself proved me wrong so I came to that conclusion...if you dislike something at the first sight you aint gonna change your mind no matter what...

1)I dont have to be van halen to express my opinion2)I might not rock as hard as you do super guitarist...so if you have some free time I would love you to teach me some stuff3)Van Halen probably loved him as a person not as a guitarist...and actually he does look like a great guy , i just dont like his music dude...

Not really. It's more like you watch this once at the age of 18, then think it sucks. Then you go through 4 years of just listening to Guns'n'Roses, Dokken, Don Ross etc... Eventually you slip by this clip again, and you go "... woah, that is actually fawkin' brilliant!"That's how it's been for me, at least.

Bitziucci:You are insinuating that Holdwsworth is shit.I am sure you cannot play Jazz nor Rock well.Giants of the Rock and Jazz world alike have admired his playing.Eddie Van Halen loved Holdsworth and Joe Pass loved him as well.He created something entirely original. That qualifies him as a musical genius. You are expressing your ignorance by calling a genius shit. |
