Legally, can this HR6034 be overturned at a later date and punishment be retroactive?

Maybe you are right. But I blame their leaders more. It's clear from their betrayal of the midterm mandate that Pelosi and Reid gave Bush all the money he wanted, to convince lobbyists to trust them. And that's all that matters. Certainly people's lives, the quality of our water and air, the continued divide between rich and poor, all the destruction of workers' unions and benefits do not concern "liberal" Dems any more than they do Reps--but Obama may be the savior here.

Few people actually get angry when some criticize the president, his administration, and even future candidates. Maybe Americans don't deserve to have the Bill of Rights...since many have shown them to be nothing more than a piece of paper from 200+ years ago.

And some wonder why I am not voting for Barack...this is just one of many reasons.

This is about spying on US citizens. Who cares who they are talking to. In state. Out of state. Out of country. Out of orbit. The People have 4th Amendment rights and the government is under an obligation to secure those rights for us. All the government has to do is scream that we need security, and look how fast the People's representatives are so willing to give up their liberty. This lesson should still be fresh in our minds from the Reichstag Fire but it's not. History will repeat itself.

incrementalism my friend, first it's just international calls then interstate calls, then when they make it all calls and information transfer they'll say if you have nothing to hidewhy so worried. I aint gonna be the frog in pot man. This is wholly illegal. If you're declared an enemy combatant how do you prove you're actually a US citizen? to sum it up- Any man willing to sacrifice liberty for security deserves neither.

you doody head foil hat crowd!this is for _international_ communications. you calling your relative somewhere in the heartland. constitutional rights are not available for international enemy combatants, no matter _how_ sympathetic you are to them.

Those in the Senate who voted for this bill are traitors to this country and their oath of office... so why doesn't some Senator call them on this? Fascism is alive and well if We the People continue to let this happen without a fight.
