He is completly right with herding. he will CONTINUESLY herd my cats and horses, we also have to throw a frizzbee or ball for around half-1 hour before he calms down alittle. They are great dogs, but always keep in mind they will go mentally insane(litarally) if they dont do anything, they are not the type of dog to sit with you at home all day doing nothing.

Absolutely NOT!Border collies thrive when they're included in the pack and love to be a constant companion. I would not suggest you leave a border collie alone all day, even with 5 acres. He'd be bored and lonely and likely become neurotic. Just my 2 cents.

We had a Border Collie for 16 years. Best dog ever! It's true what he said about the herding. When we had a our house we used to have ducks wander into our yard when he rained and he loved chasing/herding them. He did it to the cats too when we had to move him into a smaller place and keep him inside. By the way, not a good idea to keep them as inside dogs especially in a small apartment! You have to give them lots of room to run around. Usually, very happy, playful pups.

Hey dude, I have just bought 5 acres of land and want a dog for company but I work 7 hours a day and six days a week. I want a BC because of its intelligence. I am willing to work it walks/play/mind stimulation 2 hours each morning. Is this commitment good enough for such a dog? BTW the dog will be left alone when Im at work.

Wow great video. I have trained and owned Border Collies for 18 years and have put agility titles and championships on 4 dogs and I tell people all the time that want Border Collies as pets not to get them if they don't have a job for them to do. I loved your video and you explained the breed perfectly!! Elizabeth

I have a beautiful 3 yr old BC. She loves rounding up my other dog when we go for walks. I give her a 20 min walk, 4 times a day, at least where she gets to run around & play off the lead. She's wonderful to watch, especially when she's stalking and then tries to nip my other dogs hind leg!If she runs off too far after something, I just call to distract her & have a ball/stick with me at all times. It usually works, but don't kill the spirit in these dogs or they'll be miserable & disobedient.

I wasn't able to train my border collie. But I was able to educate her. She decides what she does and usually I agree with her. When she was in her prime, she was faster than a speeding bullet and could change directions like a UFO on a radar screen. She still has a great sense of humor and pulls practical jokes all the time.

The thing about border collies is that they pattern so fast... they do something just a couple of times and it can be VERY hard to break them of it later. This is why they are considered so smart. They learn extremely fast, but try to make them unlearn something! :-) I have 2 of 'em and wouldn't trade them for the world though.
