I agree. I always squat past 90 degrees with heavy weight and my knees never hurt. I convinced my girlfriend to squat in this manners because of the imbalance of strength and she noticed the difference right away.

I'm going off of what our trainer (specializing in soccer training) always had said to my team. Heavy lifting, yeah, I'm sure is a different story. For squats like these, it doesn't seem that changing momentum comes into play, you can do that as slow as you want.
