Yeah, I can see where he gets the smooth jazz thing but the soloing is so perfect from both herbie and pat that its far from smooth jazz. Not to mention the rhythm is far more intense.

hahaha. funny you say it's closely related to smooth jazz. I've talked with Pat's brother the trumpet player (Mike) who told me Pat went off on Kenny G about his smooth jazz shit. But you are right this is not elevator shit.

The back beat of "One, TWO, three, FOUR" is not elevator style. It's used in many, many rock and jazz beats. (I just forget which of the two).

It his similarities to smooth jazz.Not saying I don't like it, and the musicianship is farrr better than "elevator music". But there are definitely similarities: i.e. the back beat (one TWO three FOUR), the guitar tone, etc... |
