Hmm. Maybe you're right. I was thinking infrared more along the lines of FLIR.

The color response with high luminance coming from reds and chirping crickets sorta lead me to that conclusion. Maybe it's just dim daylight too dark for regular photography but offers just enough infrared to be captured by an infrared cam?
