HOME Hospice (Australia) - a community program for carers
8 in 10 people express a wish to die at home, but only 2 in 10 are able to do so. HOME Hospice is a free program for carers and their families.A HOME Hospice Volunteer Mentor acts as a knowledgeable friend and guide to the carer. HOME Hospice is not a palliative care service. We work along side medical and other essential home based services. We are a community program that has been developed over 27 years by Dr Helen-Anne Manion a Palliative Care Specialist and her husband Gerard Manion a counsellor. We provide support via our volunteer mentors. We know that support for carers is essential if a death is to occur at home. We support carers in their labour of love, helping them to gather a support team so that they avoid burn-out. If you'd like to learn more about the HOME Hospice program, are a carer or are interested in volunteering with HOME Hospice please contact 1800 132 229.

I totally agree, My grandmother was forced to live in a nursing home in pain for over 3 years, All she wanted to do was die at home, at the end she couldnt even make sense of herself.I would have given anything to have her at home |
