Been there many times. My Chinese wife's family lives there. My best friend in the world lives there. The 460 council members are elected. Hong Kong is self governed except for National defense and foreign affairs. Children roam the streets freely and use the abundant public transportation without fear. 37,000 friendly and helpful police walk the streets with a vow to make HK the safest city in the world. Parks, sports facilities and beautiful school buildings are everywhere. I will retire there

I knew the fear of death many times when Communist missiles locked on my US Navy warplane. But the Soviet Union and China are very different. Hong Kong is a region of China with a CAPITALIST administration. Administrators are elected, then watched over by the China Central government. Corruption is considered treason against the people punishable by death (no golden parachutes). Wealth really does "trickle down" to the people (children). Most well populated regions of China are governed this way

This is amazing however Hong Kong is a territory of China therefore I wouldn't be surprised if this was a communist "Jump rope to spare your life" kinda thing.

How about a scientific anaylsis. Hong Kong children have great nutrition, good schools, parks and sports facilities everywhere, excellent public transportation, and streets that are safe to travel, even for children. Hong Kong children don't have to wait for a ride, and they aren't emprisoned between the TV and the pizza box. Maybe that's because China charges corrupt government officials with treason, punishable by death.
