it's called diction. the preffered choice of word which differs across different region even within natively malay speaking region in indonesia or malaysia.for example, the northeast and south part of malaysia use different word for "Often"Selalu (johor/riau) = Sokmo (kelantan) = Sering (Sumatra). But each word exist in the Malay Dictionary.

both bahasa melayu (malaysia, singapore, south thailand, brunei) and bahasa indonesia is the same as all aforementioned country has made a common consensus that malay language as spoken in the johor-riau area as the standard.indonesian government itself made a declaration that bahasa melayu kepulauan riau as "Bahasa Persuratan Tinggi" which makes it the ultimate standard.so set your nationalism aside and let culture be beyond political boundry.

Indonesian letters are based on a phonics system - 26 sounds that make 26 letters - that it is very easy to learn. In English we have 84 sounds but the same number of 26 letters - that is why English words can not be pronounced from letters. Only recently English schools adopt phonics in their primary school but Indonesians have had phonics for decades.
