As Channel 4 was a complementary service to ITV, in a way like BBC1 and BBC2 they had a duty to cross-promote each other.

I was on this show. They did a feature at Chessington Zoo (yes, it was that long ago) and wanted to film me following a penguin, impersonating it as I went. But when they showed it, of course it didn't come out like that, it looked like some toddler chasing one of the penguins. Still, it made the audience laugh and made me famous for 5 minutes!

No easier than that.Channel 4 was opened as a public service broadcaster but unlike the BBC (licence fee) it was to gain it's funding from adverts. ITV sold them for both channels until 1993.Channel 4 are currently trying to get a slice of the licence fee.

Because ITV and Channel 4 are (were?) owned by the same company. BBC had BBC 1 & 2. ITV had ITV and Channel 4. This was of course long before we got digital TV and channel numbers suddenly became rather complicated.
