No, they did care. I am pretty sure that they would have killed anybody who was Black or Jewish, etc. no matter how powerful they were.

I agree. He wasn't that fanatical like Goebbels or Hitler, but he spared some select few Jews that saved him or who were friends of his wife. Imagine a Reich Marshal who was a drug addict, a pompous show-off who saw himself as supererior, a keen strategist, a looter of purloined art, a wildlife conservationist, etc.I think his real flaws were his greed (hurting others for personal gain), arrogance, and moral cowardice (for not stopping Hitler). Can't be denied he had a cool intellect.
