It doesn't really matter what he specifically does. Many of the things that must be done cannot be done by an individual alone. If you plug in an electronic gizmo you don't know where the energy for that comes from. Government needs to make policy, and for that, the people need to demand it.

The amount of mercury in these lamps is miniscule, but yes there are millions of them going into landfill. This is not how mercury passes into the environment or the food chain however, so don't fret about it.Virtually all unnatural concentrations of environmental mercury are the result of industrial processes such as coal burning and scrap smelting, which vaporize mercury and disperse it into the atmosphere via the smokestack. Lightbulbs in landfill don't do this. Get over it.
