It's a music issue -- since MTV was a 'publicity machine' for record labels at the time, labels would allow the use of their music free-of-charge for MTV to use in its original shows like this and Daria and Beavis and Butthead.I read an interview w/ David Wain somewhere where he said that the problem with putting it out on a DVD is that now those labels would be entitled to compensation and each song would have to be individually cleared.

Thank yuo so much for posting this. I loved The State and remember this skit. I wish it was on DVD. I remember the one on the international sign for choking. It was great.

Fuck when are we gonna finally see the State released on DVD,I mean MTV can put out DVD's by shit shows like The Hills or other shows about spoiled brats in Orange County,or I'm a spoiled little cunt aka: My super sweet sixteen,but we can't get one of the best shows in MTV's history on DVD,don't get me started that they actually used to play music videos!!!

This is so great! We used to watch this video over and over again. We still talk about "I'm gonna dip my balls in it." And "Carrrrlllll." Oh, and "It's the ASPCA for you." I always had a thing for Ken Marino.
