That's a load of shit man! "Cheater" my arse! You just gotta use the correct tools for the job. Lots of guys think that as soon as they get a really shallow mouthpiece that automatically gives them a fantastic range, but playing lead is about so much more than just playing high notes. It's really challenging to get a great sound out of those mouthpieces over the whole register of the instrument so there's nothing to do with cheating about it. I'm a lead player so I know.

I suppose you could argue it conversely that way, but i think a deep cup mouthpiece would require a lot more conditioning of the embouchure and lung strength to achieve that truly rich classical tone.Don't get me wrong, i am in no way implying that Bergeron has poorly developed breath or muscle technique, im just speaking from personal experience in comparing a marcinkiewicz with a deep cup, heavier mouthpiece. But i would disagree that a deep cup would make it "easier" to play classical.

then deep cups are cheater pieces for classical stuff yes?

Well geez, you should say "The Music" if you mean "The Music." I don't understand why you said "Go play out of your real book." Was that an insult? The Real Book is a really amazing group of charts. Why would you hate on it?LOL... ok... w/e.

Ok, I'm sorry. I had to respond to this. This is Such a Ridiculous post...I don't know where you come from- but in the world of REAL JAZZ, Solo's are NEVER memorized. Disgraceful!

Is that a marcinkiewicz mouthpiece bergeron is playing on? They do all the work for you in the upper range, they're fun to play on, but i would almost consider it a "cheater" piece.
