Because it is legal...according to the law, this is not cruelty, not lack of treatment, and not horrifying conditions. PUPPY MILLS ARE LEGAL!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought 2 puppies from a petstore 7 years ago never knowing about this horror. About 2 months ago I learned about puppy mills and have lobbied ever since to stop them. I encourage anyone even the slightest bit outraged by this to write/e-mail their legislators & governor and demand change. Tell everyone you know NOT to buy puppies from a pet store and don't support those stores in any way! Education is key. Had I known about this sooner, I would have adopted dogs instead of buying them.

Where do all the inspectors come from? How come that they don't do anything about the cruelty, lack of treatment and horrifying conditions in puppymills? Do those people have pets at all? They should be replaced by animal lovers and NO MERCY for the so-called licensees....People are fined for abusing their dogs in dog fights but not for breeding them? Where is the logic. Please help change the law!

Is there any hope on the horizon that the laws will be changed and it will be illegal to keep a dog in a cage without exercise and proper attention?
PetShopPuppies (January 17, 2008 at 10:45 pm)
Not by law they don't. No exercise, unless you consider being crammed in a cage with another dog "exercise" as USDA does. And why should they regulate breeding cycles? Their just "property" right? I'm curious, did you even look at this video? You think that cage size is fine?
lazybones317 (January 16, 2008 at 5:02 pm)
If the usda were actually doing there jobs and werent so lazy alot of this wouldnt happen this is america you have the right to breed and sell as many dogs as you want if you can properly care for them and i firmly believe that there should be a guidelines that restrict consecutive breeding cycles a dog living in a cage is not cruel if cared for properly but they do need down time and exercise to maintain a healthy animal

There was a comment about whether the USDA regs for dogs sold as pets, but I accidentally hit "remove" instead of "reply." The answer to that question is that these are regs for dogs raised as livestock! Dogs raised for producing puppies for the wholesale dog market, i.e. Pet stores!
