Missouri produces more puppies for pet shops than any other state. In fact, they produce almost as many puppies as all other states combined. One of the reasons that Missouri puppy mills flourish is that they are endorsed and promoted by the Missouri Department of Agriculture. You can read all about the Missouri Blue Ribbon Kennel Programon the Missouri Department of Agriculture's website at this URL. http://www.mda.mo.gov/brk/inde... an exclusive from PetShopPuppies, Inc., go inside a Missouri Blue Ribbon Kennel, "Missouri's Elite Puppy Program," and see what it means to be the best!Note: While we commend the Blue Ribbon Kennels for exceeding industry standards, we think it is important to inform the pet shop customer of the kind of life these dogs live. The cages you will see are where these dogs live 24 hours a day for the rest of their lives. They are never taken out for exercise or interaction with people. Wire floors allow the feces and urine to fall through the cage; automatic feeders allow food to be given to dogs from outside the cage; automatic waterers also allow the dogs to be watered from outside the cage. They must lick a small metal ball repeatedly to release one drop of water at a time. These minimum standards of care make it possible for a breeder to almost completely avoid touching the dogs except 2-3 times a year when they vaccinate/deworm, when they are placing dogs together for breeding and when a female whelps puppies.

This is the "best" example of a puppy mill I've seen - and even then it is deplorable! I get a sick feeling in my stomach and tear well up in my eyes viewing this video. Again it is by far and away cleaner and better equipped than what I've previously seen, but America needs to do away with the "pet store" dog and cat trade! America needs a massive campaign about the proper way to acquire a pet. And if it seems expensive that way - GOOD! There are too many pets bred to die in this country!

Well, at least this breeder is keeping them clean. This is what Petland looks like too... all in wire cages, etc

This is an example of using living creatures for profit, with little regard for their well-being. DON'T buy from pet shops...if you must have a purebred dog, go to a reputable breeder or work with a breed rescue group.

(lazybones317) Dogs aren't meant to be kept in small cages and bread round the clock with no human contact besides getting fed and vetted. Just because a dog has a clean cage doesn't mean it's acceptable to live in that situation for life.

A good breeder is okay. You want a a breeder who will bot breed more than 3 or 4 breeds. You should be able to see the parents of your dog. You should be able to visit where they live. Puppymills, those are another story, those are unexceptable.

So sad... that boxer's sweet face broke my heart... and the bostons... all of them... poor, poor things.
