Cobb has the highest batting average at .367 and also has the record for the most batting points above what the rest of the players hit during his particular career from start to finish.

usually he used 2 arms sir...You want to go on how crippled he was?Cobb nearly lost his eyesight!...He got his tonsils hacked apart by a guy admitted to an an insane asylum, he got threats that guys were going to snipe him in Philly and elsewhere, he saw his mother kill his idol - his father, I could keep going but Mickey has nothing on himIts not how skilled you are its how you use what you've gotCobb worked so hard, and was so smart, his attack was so varied, He WAS A GENUS IN SPIKES

Um noIf you can't even check the stats, what are you good for? He(Cobb) lead the league in Slugging 1907,1908,1909,1910,1911,1912,1914,1917He came in second in SLUGGING 1913, 1915,1918,He came 3rd in SLUGGING 1916,1921,1925He lead in BA 12X, OPS 10, Steals 6, I could keep goingIt is nuts He has sooo many records I can't name them all in a post, but there was none better than the Great Georgia Peach, if he played for the Yankees we wouldn't be talking

Don't talk shit about Mantle. The guy can hit a home run with 1 arm. Not only can he hit the ball out of the park, but he was one of the fastest guys among his peers.
Airmaster167 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
I think you confused "batting average" with "slugging." Ruth destroyed him in slugging. Some say he scored from 1st on a single, and came home from 2nd on a passed ball. That is nuts.
smokinranger8 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
He wasn't nearly as racist as many thought, if you study it... Yea it is insane especially considering over the first half of his career he played in the dead-ball eraHe lead the league in SLUGGING 8X, LEAD THE LEAGUECame in 2nd 3 more times and 3rd 3 morePlus add the steals inPlus add in his great fielding and bunting abilities and you have the bestall around wonder and he wasn't even that talented
smokinranger8 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
You're wrongBonds doesn't even make the listMantle and Mays wouldn't make my top 10Ruth (if you don't include pitchers and thus only look at his hitting)would be third after Hans WagnerIf you did include pitchers, I might put some pitchers before bothStill Cobb was a great human a brilliant man with money and a genus in spikes
EricAnno (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Yes we are REALLY talking Cobb as the greatest ball player EVER, because he most certainly was. Mickey Mantle, whom I grew up on, was the greatest all-around ball player I had ever seen, but he drank and partied and essentially ruined his career. Don't even bring Bonds into any discussion, because even prior to his PEDs usage, he was far from anything Cobb did. Mays doesn't make my top five, and Ruth is right behind Cobb.

We're really talking Cobb as the greatest player ever? He's the greatest player of the Dead Ball Era, not ever. Just talking position players, Babe Ruth, Mantle, Mays and Bonds are a few players better than Cobb. And no, I don't hate Ty Cobb for his alleged racism. By todays standards he may be racist, but for back then he actually seems racially progressive. |
