The scene with the spirits and Marley terrified me as a child...I thought that was Hell-and that they were actually tormenting her instead of trying to help....Creepy!

I've watched many versions of A Christmas Carol, Including the one with muppets. And this one is my favorite!I look forward to this movie every year. The color version of this is okay, but the best way to watch it is in its original Black and White. Not to say anything bad about the other actors who played Scrooge over the years but Alaster Sim's performance is the best. He was a great actor.

It is nice to be around other people who love this version as much as I do =} Thanks for posting! I will be listening to this while I do some e-shopping!

Yes, Scrooge also screams longer at the tombstone.

I love your comment, bvmjoe. This is also my all time favorite. Have you seen the recent release of this on DVD? The part where he is running to open the window on Christmas morning that you mentioned is intact, due to restoration, and included for the first time. It is only a tiny spot, but still one of these valuables that make it well worth having.

That quick scene of the poor woman and child, with all the doomed spirts,as wll as Jacob, has always bothered me too.

My all time favorite is this British version with Alastir Sim. I used to watch it at midnight Christmas eve every year with my brother and it was a tradidtion with us. None of the others can compare. I loved the part on Christmes morning when he woke up and stuck his head out the window and the church bells were ringing.

Absolutely. Tales about morality and spiritual growth make for good viewing at any time of the year, not to mention the absolute realism of the characters and fine direction and production.

Michael Hodern was a damn fine actor, and Sim and Hordern made a fine pairing in this movie.
